RUGER, sp101

RUGER, sp101

this is my first revolver. I bought this last week and took it out for the first time this afternoon..one box of Federal 110gr. HSJHP .38..shot like a dream and very comfortable for a guy with short fat fingers like i got..then i loaded Federal .357, 125gr and tried that...WTF...ouch that hurt..!! and loud too...after shooting a 9mm this little sucker got some balls...gonna do a revue if its not been done before but need more time with it..only fired ten rounds at .357 and felt like my wrist was broken

Try some 110 gr JHP .357, loaded somewhat less than total max, balls to the wall. Federal makes them, & probably other mfg's. I have a friend who has one of these, who uses the Federal 110 gr load, & works well for him. I've shot it with that load, & it's pretty controllable. Not as controllable as is the 110 gr. .38 Special, of course, but it's OK, & has more authority than the .38 Special. Don't try max load 158 gr. .357's! My friend & I both tried these in the SP101, & about 2 rounds was enough. Worse than the 125 gr .357's, as far as recoil. The SP101 is all steel. I NEVER want to try one of the S&W titanium frame J-frames in .357. I love shooting, but I'm not into pain, or even discomfort. I'm 70 now, & my macho days are long gone.

I'll give them a try and keep at it till I get comfortable with the load

I have reasons for the things I do, just don't expect them to be reasonable

Cool wheel gun. .357? I thought SP101 were .327 Federal Mags. Oh well I could be wrong. But this is a sweet gun.

anyways dont give up if you want a good revolver maybe try a smaller cal like a s&w 625 in .45. Or try and find a lower powered .357 like ya said.
