Couple decades in AZ's DOC and can tell you from my heart that Corrections is the most under appreciated / rated of all the sub species of LE.

I was half way thru my carrier before we were Peace Officer Certified, and when those standards (LE certified) came on line i saw a huge change in our professionalism, so obviously i can understand why we didn't have the same respect as other areas of LE..

It always broke my heart to see our troops who were under maned, (corrections always gets "hind tit" in state budgets) and over worked, due to over populated prisons get negative or no coverage on just about any phase of public service coverage.. Can't tell you how many times i'd come home from a double or at least extra hours (sups were given "time" as opposed to $ in OT sit's) and see a story about other public servants, and how brave, etc they were..

Never begrudged any of those who were given this media "pat on back" as they deserved it, that being said we had more on the job injuries than any other state agencies, fact not conjecture, and this was "used" in my last year (04) to justify AZ's 02 budge increase for Corrections

The phrase "run to danger as opposed to away" is over used by those who really have no idea what it means to hear a garbled "NEED BACK UP" you just hope you can get the 20 of where this came from and break out running.. No time to talk about "IMS" procedures, that all works well in the class room, the reality is one staff to every 50 Inmates (if your lucky, and this is NO bs) the real numbers will almost always be a yard of 350-400 Inmates and "maybe" 5 CO's for that population.. You think running into that when you KNOW that the minimum at the other end is so much blood and feces on the ground that we laugh at the CSI "crime scene" stuff..

I could go on for hours on this.. The public has NO idea what goes on behind those walls.. They don't WANT to know.. A personal aside to Matt here.. Matt you asked me a question recently, how did you feel when you read the above.. Thats all you need to know to make your decision..I'm pretty sure i KNOW how you feel, thats why you promote and stay with it.. Few outside of the profession can get this, and thats as it should be.. Dirty, Filthy, Dangerous, no credit.. but others walking your beat get it.. hope you stay and promote Matt..

Guy's i try not to tell to many "war stories" .. the above has me all "tweaked" .. but i will tell you that not a word is exagerated. Lot of hero's out there that don't get the credit they deserve.. CO's are just one of them, but .. honestly.. thier up their at the top of the list..

I've been a CO for 3 years now and I agree with you. We are so short handed its crazy. I work a pod with 65 inmates and my desk sits right in the middle of the dayroom, just a desk with a control board for all the doors.

Air Force recruit training. Lackland AFB, San Antone. We rented rooms at Randolph AFB since Lackland would not reserve any further out than one week.
Also got a room at the Navy base in Fort Worth to make the trip shorter and allow her to visit with her cousin in Dallas.
I'm kinda stoked on the trip, the nephew is a nifty guy, certified Ford mechanic. I hope he enjoys the AF since he has a wife & kid to support.

He flew in B-1s.
Huge gap between when he bounced on my knee and when we met at the base in Wichita KS. My Bro and wife split sheets when the kid was fairly small.
Anyway, you ever get to Utapao Thailand? Great AF base, all the comforts of home and then some right in the middle of the war LOL!
Here's the Navy Fart Worth deal, kinda cool.

https://www.cnic.navy.mil/fortworth/index.htm

Years ago I got a room on a Navy base for my girlfriend and I. It turned out to be a room in the barracks with shared living room and bath. It was a bunch of single guys and yes, they THEY walked in on her when she took a shower. They thought it was funny, she could not care less.
That was the huge exception to the rule, most of the rooms I've had on bases were AT LEAST as nice or better than the $80 - $120 rooms in town (prices a long time ago).
Familiarity...In one of the flight crews I was a member of we had a LtJg Naviguesser who's first name was Arthur. A few of the guys called him Art, he thought that was bad. One day he and I were drinking on the veranda of a hotel in Bankok. He got serious and told me what the guys were calling him and asked me to talk to them about it since I was senior. I told him I would. Then he said, "You can call me Art", I said "okay".

My niece and her boyfriend are COs in Lexington, KY. They tell me their stories and I continue to wonder why we don't allow capital punishment for more than just Murder 1. Also, knowing these things makes me want to choke the shit out of bleeding heart a-holes that talk about how prisoners are people too and deserve to be molly-coddled.

I agree wholeheartedly! My camp is all sex offenders and I personally think that child molesters should qualify for and receive the death penalty.

depending on what the act was, trigger a death penalty trial. I'm talking forced sexual contact with minors. To me, some clown that gets drunk and flashes his butt is not a sex offender, he's a moron. Unfortunately, some of the same bleeding heart liberals that want to send dangerous sex offenders back to the communities would put away a drunk clown for just trying to be funny.
You have to protect the guy that pulls off some stupid stunt from the system that would fry him.
Anyone in this great country, I mean anyone can get the max penalty in a court of law, matters not whether the person committed a crime. Because of that there has to be a little slack, a chance for the innocent and the morons to clear themselves.
Serial sex offenders who target children, if one were to go after my G-kids it would get serious as soon as I had access to him/her.

WV dosen't have capital punishment. the worst they can get is life with out, which means they live for free the rest of there lives, watching tv and playing video games which there allowed to have in WV. some of them have jobs but they may only work for an hour and still get there full day pay. evan if they don't work they still get paid for all day of work cause they have job cantracts. I know I only get paid when I go to work and for how long I work.
