SF, CA Hunters Point Navy Base 1971 Photo

This is a pic of a thriving Naval Base, bringing millions of dollars into the Bay Area Economy,
along with thousands of job. Then the liberal governmental and social powers wanted to rid Calif of the evil military presense. Well congratulations you morons. This facility sits idle and abandoned and borders on one of the worst black ghettos in the US. Hunters Point is home to gangs, drugs and every sort of lowlife imaginable. The police won't even patrol there.

An aerial view of Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard, San Francisco, California (USA), with three docked aircraft carriers on 25 August 1971. The carriers are the USS Ranger (CVA-61) (in dry dock), USS Coral Sea (CVA-43), and the USS Hancock (CVA-19) (left).

The same can be said of the Naval air station at Alameda which limped along until 1997.

Hamp, Great pic

I took off from there in a C97 heading for Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. That runway at the end is like a carrier deck over the water.
We were overloaded with materiel and we flew under the Bay Bridge span and then gained altitude.
Quite a ride.

Beautiful pic, and the Libs and tree huggers are to fault for that.

Ranger CVA 61, Coral Sea CVA 43 and Hancock CVA 19
Hancock had just finished a Vietnam tour of duty, 1971 deployment, before moving to Hunter's Point for maintenance and repairs. I was aboard for that deployment. I did like the Essex Class carriers, good boats.
I was stationed at N.A.S. Alameda in the mid 60s.
My wife and I visited those bases and Fort Ord also a few years ago, base housing was left to rot away on Ft. Ord. Sad waste.
