the sound of the Huey's....WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP.... A bit of trivia, the reason they make that distinct sound is that the leading edge of the tip of the rotor exceeds the speed of sound every rotation, what you are hearing are sonic booms.....You learn alot as an airframe mechanic in the USCG...lol!

The Mil Mi-24 also call by its NATO name HIND has a very distinctive sound also,something to do with the engine making the "whistling" sound of a jet engine during a hover. Ive heard the sound in videos of Hind D's taking off,landing ect during field exercises

Don't know about "Hueys", but i always get the chills when the air cav flew over..not to mention an, AHB.....damn i love some AH-64's..
