CHARLEY DON'T SURF
the sound of the Huey's....WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP.... A bit of trivia, the reason they make that distinct sound is that the leading edge of the tip of the rotor exceeds the speed of sound every rotation, what you are hearing are sonic booms.....You learn alot as an airframe mechanic in the USCG...lol!
The whap whap whap is the sound of Hero's!
Ever see the movie 'we were soldiers'? http://www.gunslot.com/videos/battle-la-drang-1965-0
Don't know about "Hueys", but i always get the chills when the air cav flew over..not to mention an, AHB.....damn i love some AH-64's..
BigJitsu Welcome to the site
is an awesome aircraft which made it's first flight in 75', they were flying the AH-1 cobra in nam.
The Mil Mi-24 also call by its NATO name HIND has a very distinctive sound also, something to do with the engine making the "whistling" sound of a jet engine during a hover. Ive heard the sound in videos of Hind D's taking off, landing ect during field exercises
to ride in,nice view, couldn't see anything when ridin in a 64 or 53,unless you were close to a door way.great pic.
