I bought a Smith and Wesson 460 today. Any advice before I take it out Saturday. Any scopes to suggest? Any body have any loads for 225 grain cast bullets?
Info on it please.
This handgun was great. I shot 225 grain leads with 37 grains H4227 at 50 meters. All shots were at about 3 inches from the bench rest. The recoil was not bad at all. I was expecting a stiffer recoil but it was not much harder than a 44 mag.
Shooting prone, the groups were 5-6 inches at 50 meters. I was at all times in the deer/bear kill zone. I will take it out to 100 meters (Yes we are metric here) Monday.
I think thats pretty good precision+accuracy with reloaded ammo. I bought a box of 20 rounds of Hornady for about 45 bucks which I will try once I put a scope on at 200 meters. But for now I will just load up lead rounds at 50 cents a round........
Also, I have some 300 grain hollows to load. I'll let you know how far out I get them accurately.
I am new to reloading. Very clueless to the purpose and procedure. Eventually I will get a chrono. Please in form me what gas check do. Thank You
and allow you to get higher velocity without excessive leading of the barrel. Leading largely depends on what the lead alloy is made of and how fast your bullet is going. Hard lead=low lead build up, soft lead UGH! Tire weight lead is generally thought to be okay as it is as are bullets you buy from name brand mfgs but still, high velocity lead bullets lead the bore. Midway arms sells gas checks and all the other junque you'll need.
Your loading manuel will prolly say when checks are needed.
I will check out midway. might learn something
