ryo not understand how they could do this in light of the 2nd Amendment. also not understand the practical side of this either. how did they do it ka did the police just go door to door and say hand over their guns ka or was there some other method tried ka
such a thing just seem ridiculous to ryo.
Your ichiban magomusuko,
The sullivan act was named after a politician in NYC from Tammany hall who was a notoriously corrupt man. It required all residents to get a permit to carry concealable weapons, to include knives or blunt weapons. It was passed, but the police at the time were in Sullivan's pocket, so his people didn't have to abide by it. I don't know what year it was passed, but I do know it is one of the oldest gun control laws still on the books.
this was good explanation and so ryo understand it now. it fun for ryo to learn about this kind of history. arigato very much.
For more background, search tammany hall and see the corruption that started NYC.
in history classes at school. it was finaly ended when, and ryo not sure of year about this either, Mr. Fiorello LaGuardia for which LaGuardia Airport in New York is name after, came to power as Mayor and he was strong arm man who was stronger than Tammany Hall, and he put stop to the corruption there.
Or made it less noticeable to the people?
this is real history. Fiorello LaGuardia did break up the power of Tammany Hall. like said though, he was strong arm man too, and just proved to be stronger than Tammany Hall. it very well known historical thing that happened about this in NYC.
He may have stopped Tammany Hall, but all that happened was the corruption moved to a different place.
and attorneys, there will be corruption and graft!
and of course you are correct. this is why ryo not understand politic. but never had intention with original question to get into politic. only wanted to learn about the historical facts and for this ryo very grateful. like say before ryo love to learn about history. ryo found this Sullivan Law thing interesting and had not heard of this before and so wished to learn about it. arigato goziemasu.
understanding the politics. Trying to do so is to try to learn the who, what, when, and where, without learning the why and how. Military history will not be complete without understanding the political decisions that drive the strategic decisions.
even so politic just exasperate ryo. don't really know how to put it any other way. not everybody is into politic neh. if this were true we would alway have one hundred percent voter turnout for each election. we lucky if we get half neh. and ryo understand more than you know, it just that ryo have no interest really in politic. and ryo make straight As in honors history courses over the sai have been in high school. it is true what you say. ryo not deny this in the least. ryo in fact agree with you. even so ryo will maintain the right to be interest in what am interest in and not interest in what not interest in neh. (in case you have forgot, word neh is expression in nihongo that mean, are you with me so far)
btw, am very sorry it took so long to get back to you, but ryo was call away when a vistor come unexpectedly and ryo and little brother were needed to visit with this friend of our pops. we had meal together as well. kind of late lunch early dinner sort of thing that pops prepare on the spot for his friend and us bois. also this is last day of summer for us. we start back to school in the morning.
