A scene like this was common in our yard in the suburban/exurban Philadelphia area. We had almost exclusively does, however. In spring they would eat the tender new growth, and in fall they would feast on the apples fallen from the trees. We had to fence the garden, and shoo them out of my wife's flower gardens. Many evenings when I got home from work they would just stand and watch me park and walk to the house, with no sign of alarm.
