The Type 90 is soon to be augmented with the addition of the new Type 10 MBT under development in Nihon today. While a Nihongi company designed and built a unique 120mm cannon for this tank after much debate and much politic, which had little to do with what was in the best interest of the Nihongi people it was decided that instead of this wonderful new cannon that was designed in country, that the JDF would instead arm this tank with the Rheinmetall Corporation L44 120mm cannon because Rheinmetall granted the Nihongi government a license to build their cannon in Nihon. The new Type 10 tank will have a twin mount BMG .60, yes that not a mistake, a .60 caliber machine gun in a computer control mount that can be aim and fire while the tank is, "buttoned up" and all crew member are inside.
It is interesting to note that this is the lightest main battle tank in the world today and there is good reason for that. At a range of 1000 meter the armor of this tank can defeat fire even from the L44 cannon even with multiple hits. It is a most outstanding tank, but is aging a little bit since it was first deployed in 1990 and is slated to be first augment by and then later on completely replace by the brand new Type 10 which is almost ready to go into production.

Impressive ! Where can I find information on it's communications capability, does it have GPS on board, supporting Infantry communications station (location),computer firing solution capability. Also does it have any anti-fratricide technical and over pressure ability. There are other things but that's why they write volumes about these big Taxi's. I'm trying to understand the systems information. tks
Wikipedia. Just do a search for the Japanese Type 90 Tank. there are also external links there that ryo found very useful. for deeper research you should try the home sites of the manufacturers of the tank that are also listed there. ryo find the story of why they decide on the Rheinmetall L44 120mm cannon to be little bit depressing. Often even good government like the one currently in power in Nihon is often not very wise. this is also a very sad thing. Ryo appreciate your interest in these posts of weaponry that self and little brother make. ryo will also do more research as we have decide to use this tank as good comparison to make with the Bionix II system from Singapore. believe however it is protected from overpressure and there was specific choice made for both the small size and the fact that if you notice there is no slope armor on this tank. There are good reason for these choice too. Small size mean that this tank now surpass the Abrams tank as having the greast power to weight ratio of any tank make in the world today. The fact that there is no slope armor is because they use reactive armor that is modular and whole pieces of armor sectioning can simply be maintain by removing damage part of armor and replace with brand new modular piece in very short amount of time, even in the field. is very well thought out system. hope you enjoy researching this weapon system as much as ryo and little brother have enjoy. anything of real interest could you please be kind enough to post on thread here ka especial anything about integrated communications system.
your friend and student,
Tks for the info. Remember Wikipedia has to receive it's information from contributors (ie creators). Some times there are inaccuracies. Any WIKI would be an ideal place to post "mis-information". Generally I have found the big WIKI is very good.
wiki is just good jumping off place to start research. they are notorious for not getting stats and specs exactly correct, but for the most part they are about 85 percent correct have been our experience. ryo and ryu kun often work together on these picture and the little articles we write about them and alway try to remember to post warning that info at Wikipedia is not alway exactly correct. thank you for reminding us. however, to Wiki credit, they mostly very good about posting external link for further research and have sometime found that info at wiki is often copy word for word from these other site online. this is shame because Wikipedia is usually very good place to jump off from into other place to do more and better research. Wikipedia should police itself better to make sure that its information is as correct as possible. but generally the home site of the company that make the weapon is much better with information that can be trusted. also Jane's defense is a good source of information about just about every weapon system available in the world today. Defense Update is another very good site with more reliable information.
Your friend alway,
I thought the Japanese couldnt have a MBT.
