Impressive ship

It looks huge - and serious. I'm glad it's ours.

Not only does

This shot gives a good relationship of its size to something else like buildings, cars etc. Also things like city blocks that thing is huge and my daughter will be stationed on one. Shit she gets lost in the house.

they are starting to allow women on subs now, but it's only officers. Then they'll take senior enlisted then lower enlisted from what I understand. But first they have to get them trained for sub ops so it's going to be awhile. There going to put them on the boomers because there's more room and would be easier to set up. But my daughter and son-in-law could never serve on the same ship even if it was a carrier. This goes back I believe to when the 5 Sullivan brothers all died on the same ship in WWII.(Great movie if you ever get to see it)

I saw the

USS carl Vincente leaving under the golden gate bridge as they departed Alameda(when it was closing down the base).lots of tugboats and fanfare, with a flyby of the ships fighter squadrons, very impressive display of Navy might.

Basically, this ship is bigger than the USS Midway, but, 5 times around the flight deck was close to a mile.

Yeah, it's a big boat

Okay, ship. But I'd think it looks awfully small when it's a pilot's first time taking off and landing on that sucker.

Hey runs, do you know why some call it a ship and some call it a boat?

photobear- I was going to tell runs, after you have been living on that thing for two years, it feels like a boat. It gets real small after you have wandered around the place and getting lost.

Mike I can hardly wait

till my daughter does he first sea duty on a carrier. She gets lost in there own house lol. They'll have to send out search parties daily to get her to her job station. They also won't let her on the flight deck because f poor depth perseption( This explains alot about teaching her to drive)

Just ask a pilot, they all say the same thing. Ohhhhh Sh@@@@@@t! They record everything that goes on during flight ops for safety reasons. I was sitting a few decks below the hanger bay level when I was almost thrown off my chair. An A6 Intruder came in too low, his landing gear were sliced off and the plane slapped the deck very hard. The plane slid all the off the angle deck and dropped in the water as we went by. The pilot and the Nav ejected and landed on the deck. Beat them both up real bad.

or hit the apron of the deck.. I was never on a ship, except one time in Rota Spain, and that was an old WWII carrier that we had given to the spanish.. Had to deliver something, and then got lost trying to find my way off it..Don't know the original name and can't remember seeing any planes on it..We probabley gave them those as well..

The stern rose and the plane was too low, never had a chance. Everything was pretty much sheared off. They replayed the video over and over and over.

Whay does a CH-46 (Sea Knight?) only have three sets of wheels when its army version CH-47 Chinook have four? Seems like landing on a ship, you'd want more points of contact. I understand why the Navy version of the Blackhawk has its tail wheel further forward after being in army Blackhawks and feeling how those pilots flare before landing, but why only three on the bigger bird?

they have video of one plane that flamed out as it took off. Those things sink like rocks and they actually ejected while the plane was under water. Wish I could find a video of it must be cool as hell to see.

Yeah, better pilots

If that were the case, 160th could save taxpayers some money by only needing one valve stem for their MH60s and a half a skid for the little birds. Now those guys are fucking amazing.

LOL Runs

I always say that when I fly want the old bastard with a crew cut and military bearing flying the plane not some yuppie bastard that's a flight school grad. Do you think somebody that learned on flight trainers could have put that bird down on the Hudson like Scully? No these guys train to be prepared to fly a aircraft that has just been shot to shit.
