Forward bases used punji sticks on the perimeter to ward off attacks. They were sharpened bamboo stakes usually covered with human excrement. The enemy also used these things and If you got stabbed with one you had to get immediate medical attention or a serious blood infection would ensue and you might lose your leg or your life.

Now every time i think about how worried i was to be taken out by an ied...I will remember this.."In a different time i could have been killed with a poo stick"....love and respect to all veterans of any era ...but damn a poo stick?
