Wolves, Bison........

Enviro's (as pard calls 'em). Sorry guys, I'm an environmentalist to a degree. It is said that the sportsman is the protector of the natural habitat and it's inhabitants. True enough. No, I'm not on board with PETA or the Sierra club or any other far right loopies. I do find both beauty and nourishment in nature. We removed the buffalo and thereby, the food stock of the wolves. Re-introduction of wolves was and is stupidity with no natural prey to sustain them. Wolves are predators. That means they hunt the slow and weak and dying. It also means they get dangerous when they get hungry. The attempted eradication of the Bison had 2 purposes. To eliminate the Indian food supply and to make train travel across the plains possible. Imagine I-70 with a billion buffalo still roaming around. (that'd keep the auto's east of the Mississippi)
Balance has to be struck. Consequences have to be considered when attempting control of a native species or introduction of a non-native. That said, I can't figure any good reason why we need rattlesnakes.

you down, attack in large numbers, dismember and devour you, will they? :<))

But seriously, as you said the fauna of N. America changed to allow settlement and use.

I think we have a balance without those dang wolves, liberals that advocated for reintroducing them should be allowed to go into the woods and put flea collars on them.

Wolves without a sustainable food source are indeed a menace. You are correct, we had a balance before the re-introduction. Any predator without a food source is a menace.

people are a menace. look at all the crime and murders, your more likely to be robbed and killed than eating by dang wolves, like I said in the other post, its bs. the wolves shouldnt have been eradicated to begin with. Weve got panthers here in FL along with bears and other big animals, dont see us going and killing them off.

wolves help control

the deer and moose population here, because of wolves increasing in numbers moose are dwindling,so a hunting season for wolves has been established in this state,i have no problem going out in the woods with wolves or bears. If i'm not up to the challenge then some wolf is gonna eat good for a couple days on my carcass,i could care less, but i won't go down without a fight.Hunters do more for the wild animals than any PETA person could do.I am not for erradicating a species just because a bedtime story scared you when you were a baby(not directed at anyone in particular).I wonder what country these photos came from, looks Russian.

sorta tough..

hey guy.. not an attack on you brother.. If it came off that way im sorry.. As stated i also saw one side of the issue. Course their beautiful.. I felt the same way you do till i really got into the issue.. It's so emotional to look at a beautiful species.. the essence of all thats wild. that being said the fact is that they were killed off by ranchers because of us.. Us being people.. When the buffalo were gone the wolfs (course no faut of their own) the wolf found a new species to eat, and it was a lot easier to take down cow than bison.

ERGO.. the wolfs got shot.. without a balanced food chain the Alpha predator breeds so fast that the population gets out of control in less than a decade.. Happened in Yellowstone.. Happened in AZ.. At the time it did i felt the same way you do.. After talking to ranchers .. who came AFTER the wolf was gone by the way, i started understanding it.. Not saying its right..just a fact of life.. they "thought" the population could be controlled in Yellowstone.. no way.. same in AZ..

Even PETA wont fight this issue as the ranchers have shown what a wolf pack will do with easy pray.. its pretty ugly.. In the 1700's the Bison would be run to ground.. oldest, youngest, the pack works together to drag "mom" away from the calf.. and it's a done deal.. thats GOOD.. not with an easy prey.. they don't even consume the whole calf.. this is why even PETA is half understanding..

I've seen pictures of just the hind quarters gone.on a LOT of cows..Kill eat the best part and let the rest go.. Thats so NOT normal for the animal kingdom, what you have in FL is balanced, what we have in AZ is balanced, unchecked wolfs are a diffrent issue.. again.. not a personal attack.. group huh?

on the subject of wolves not eating all of an animal.just passing info here,no motivation either way i swear.there was a man by the name of dick prenorke(spelling of last name?)who went to alaska in the 60s built a cabin lived almost 100% of the land kept daily journals and video often.in one entry he reported finding a caribou calf that had been"ham stringed"by a wolf and left without a bite taken"had they done it just for sport?suddenly the wolves lost a few points with me"he said.he chopped up the animal and ate it himself.
for anyone interested you can find the self shot documentary with narration read from his journal the title is alone in the wilderness.great film to watch beautiful untouched scenes of nature violin flute music hand made rustic cabin being built(quite well especially considering he did it all on his own including building the chimney)

haha no worries man, i didn't feel attacked, we have great dialogues and debates on here, part of the reason I love this site and you fellas, not in a gay way, but everyone has their own opinions. Its hard to be one sided, because like you said, it sucks for the cow farmers and they lose money. think of the hunt experience when hunting for wolf! thatd be nuts. I think they should open a wolf season, do a lottery, like they do here for gator. state would make money and it would help the farmers. Like it was said before, us hunters are the stewards of this land, but not all hunters are good people, or give a shit about our woods. I went for a hog hunt yesterday, I was amazed at how much trash and shit was back in them woods. bags, cans, wrappers. I couldn't believe it...it was a management area, such a shame...

I mean all you have to do is go to any inlet and look around in the Mangroves. So full of crap you would have to cut the trees out to get all the crap out of the root system. Woods are even worse...

They should pass a law stating that if you get your ass beat for throwing a bag of trash out the window of a moving car you get a huge ass fine and the person beating your ass gets a free meal at a nice restaurant!

Truth be told

Orange Oil...

http://www.bigpaintstore.com/how-or0008.html?utm_source=gbaselive.com&ut...

Myth Busters put Skunk Spray all over this bathroom floor and had this lady go in and do a smell test. Everything they tried left some sort of lingering oder. Then they used the stuff on the link above, it is was totally gone with one cleaning. The stuff is Human safe...

Tomato Sauce, does work, My Grand Mother used it on my aunts dog at times. But she put some other stuff in it, like Borax or Baking Soda, not sure.

I know for a fact that the Orange Oil (Gunk) Hand Cleaner works fantastic. I had burnt 90 weight gear oil all over my right shoulder and arm after changing the ring and pinion in my sons 240.

Washed it off with Orange Gunk and it was gone completely.

jokes aside though,i believe wolves have more right to this land than i do.they were here first.that dosnt mean i don't think we should hunt them, just not to extinction.
(best forest jump impression here) and thats all i have to say about that.

can understand where you are coming from.

I don't feel we have a right to kill them off as a Species, but at the same time I think people have a right to stop them from taking their live stock.

What I do think should happen is that there should not be anymore encroachment allowed is designated areas....

I don't think anyone should have the right to decide to move into a known habitat and kill them off so they can run livestock...
