Oct. 24: U.S. soldiers fire mortars at known enemy firing positions from a base in the Pech River Valley in Afghanistan's Kunar province.
KABUL — Eight American troops were killed in multiple bomb attacks Tuesday in southern Afghanistan, making October the deadliest month of the war for U.S. forces since it began in 2001.
The eight deaths occurred during "multiple, complex" bomb strikes that also killed one Afghan civilian, the U.S. military said in a statement.
Several troops were wounded and evacuated to a nearby medical facility, the military said. No other details were immediately available.
The deaths bring to 55 the total number of American troops killed in October in Afghanistan. The previous high occurred in August, when 51 U.S. soldiers died and the troubled nation held the first round of its presidential elections amid a wave of Taliban insurgent attacks.
The deadliest month of the Iraq conflict for U.S. forces was November 2004, when 137 Americans were killed during the assault to clear insurgents from the city of Fallujah.
"A loss like this is extremely difficult for the families as well as for those who served alongside these brave service members," said Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, a military spokeswoman. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who mourn their loss."
The loss of life followed one of the worst days of the war for U.S. forces in Afghanistan since they launched air strikes in 2001 to oust the Taliban from pow

for the run-off election in Afghanistan. I don't buy it. He just can't make a decision. He's a hell of a candidate. He can campaign, and orate (or speechify), & figure out how to appeal to the masses with slogans. He has a great candidate's smile & posture (and so does his wife). But it's becoming more & more apparent that he's not suited to govern. There's a possibility that he'll grow into the job. Problem is, what happens in the meantime? For me, the situation we're in now is scary. The shit's hitting the fan. We need someone in the office who has the skill, knowledge & character to be a leader, & the need is becoming more urgent every day.

but a piss poor leader. Come on look at his record all he ever did was vote present. He hate the military and all it stands for, despises America and wants to change us and heal our wounded souls. Snake oil charmer is all he is. He would rather play golf or a pick up game of basketball than worry about our troops. He's knocked for not playing golf/basketball with a women and poof the next day he is. He's critisised for not makeing a descision with our troops and he doesn't care. He should be impeached!!!

Impeach him now before one more drop of our soldiers' blood is shed. He is the worst president that this country has EVER seen. He makes Carter look like a viable president. At least Carter got SOMETHING done. He didn't just vote present all of the time.
Maybe we can get Michelle Bachmann to dress up in a Princess Leia suit and play the hologram scene for us..."Ron Reagan, we need you. Ron Reagan, we need you..."
