I finally got around not getting this posted. So far I've cooked up one of tenderloins into awesome fried fingers. I've also made about 15 pounds of jerky.

Up in Missouri at my folk's neighbor's place. It was about 25-30 yard shot perfect broadside. When I opened him up, the heart was mush. Everything just came together. The .223 worked just fine. I'm not sure just how far out I would trust it, but where I was it worked just fine.

Nice Deer

Nice Shot, I am going out myself today as soon as my relief gets into work and I get home to change.

Thanks

TG the AR was great. It was light and easy to carry all day. I too am looking at moving up to .30 cal AR for next year. I'll have to see what's in the budget, but would love to get an AR-10 or an upper for my 15 in 300 blackout. With the 300, you can use the same mags. It's on the wish list. I dropped him with the first shot but he was still breathing so did a mercy shot to end it. I was using Remington hypersonic 62 grain. It has a deer and an elk on the box but I wouldn't try it on an elk.

Daisy, thank you for the data. I'm sure the round itself can do the job within those ranges. I'm Concerned with me and my current setup. I'm using a small prismatic scope that really is a tactical type. I just don't want to wound the deer and lose it. I have regular deer rifles that I can comfortably take those shots with; 30-30, .30-06, and 7mm mag. When I was younger, I thought more power was better. Don't get me wrong, shot placement is king, but a 7mm mag shoots flat and hard. I took along the 7mm mag just in case, but where I was hunting didn't have many long range shots. I have found that carrying the AR is a lot more comfortable as I can use my 2 point sling across my chest. The AR is just more ergonomic and handy.

Haven't done a proper bench grouping. Have just done a bag on the bench, but I think I had it hitting at an inch or less at a hundred yards. The scope only has 1x so it's not a precision item at that range. Closer, I was making one ragged hole.
