Desert Eagle 50 AE

I bought a 50 AE from a cop who was getting married and needed the money. I wanted a iron site pistol to hunt deer which I could just drive to the hunting property after work without having a shotgun or giant scoped in my car at work. 50 AE will take a deer.

Performance

Shooting 25 rounds of factory Federal "deer slayer" 50 AE. At 25 yards I shot 3" groups off hand. I was so happy with being able to hit multiple times in my "back yard deer hunting" range.
At 50 yards the groups opened up but I think it was due to my flinching from the recoil. When I breathed and squeezed properly the rounds went within 3" groups. Next range day I will start at 50 yards and have better results.
The recoil was not bad. After 25 shots I started to feel the concussion. My first 15 or so shots were great. The recoil started to bother me after 15. So for a deer gun where you hopefully only need one shot its great. No failures to feed experienced

Features

The 50 AE barrel has a rail for a scope. The safety is on both sides of the receiver so even though the gun is big I could easily manipulate the safety. I like having a safety on a hunting gun unlike my 460 Smith revolver. Also the Desert eagle can have barrel changes to 44 mag, 357 mag.

Appeal

I like the looks. Black powder finish will be great for hunting. I did see some pachimyer grips out there which would make it look cool but I like the feel of the factory grips.

The desert eagle in 50 AE is accurate, functioned flawlessly and I could handle the recoil enough to be productive. Its balanced for a big gun where control isnt an issue. I have trouble controlling a 460 Smith because of the weight distribution where I needed shooting sticks to be accurate. The desert eagle feels like a bigger 1911 which seems more natural for me to shoot.
With practice I think I could pie plate out to 75 yards off hand. With shooting sticks probably 100 yards easy. Shot some clays at 25 yards, 50 yards and at 100 I was close. I could see the dirt clouds just below the clay so close that the clay rolled off the berm. It would have been a definite dead deer. The ammunition is expensive so I wanted to conserve for another day at the 100 yard marker.

Also reloading the 50 AE is pretty easy. Just like a 45 ACP. I am loading up some light loads to see if the action will be effected. 21.4 grains of 2400 behind a 300 grain XTP. even at 1200 FPS a deer is going down with a 50 cal bullet.
Gonna try to find some once fired brass. I enjoy developing a good target/deer load. Its part of my hobby. By November deer/bear season Ill be ready with this excellent hand cannon.

Nope

The cartridge is a 50 cal with a 44 mag rim. I will find some brass somewhere. Wont need that much ammo. Only can handle 25 rounds at a time before my hand goes numb

Desert eagle price

It was expensive but look for deals. I bought mine used from a cop. There are used ones out there you could get under 1K. I would get dies (50 AE) because the ammo is scarce

I finally worked a load up that works perfect. 29.4 Grain W296, 300 grain spear AE 50 cal. Shot right into the 3 ring at 35 yards ( my deer hunting limit). Pretty excited for hunting with it.
