Yes I called it a plinker as it really doesn't have much more kick or take down than a .22lr

Performance

The fixed sights on this pistol do leave a lot wanting. The large fin in the front makes you feel like you're pointing the pistol at the ground sometimes. Once you line up those sights though, you are sure to hit your target within 25 yards. I've only shot to about 25 yards with it so I can't speak for further than that. The hammer is like butter and as such is a fun gun to cowboy hip shoot. Due to the small .38 s&w round it kicks much like a .380 though slightly weaker. With a little practice you can make a milk jug dance while hip shooting. It is a S&W so the trigger pull is still nice and doesn't creep as bad as you would think for an older pistol. The power of the bullet isn't much though. Though it does still pack a better punch than a .32 or a .22LR.

Features

There really doesn't seem to be much aftermarket for this pistol as it is an out-dated round. Apparently though there are aftermarket grips for it, though the fitting is a little off. This isn't the kind of gun you "pimp" out though. A good quick-draw holster is about as good as you get. Though it still has that ejector pin like contemporary Smith & Wesson revolvers so unloading it is quick. Sometimes small or medium frame speedloaders work with it as well.

Appeal

The appeal of this gun comes from lack of a better phrase, patriotism. This is a pistol used by Allied Forces during WWII. It was also used by policemen. Basically the appeal comes from it's history. For milsurp and curio/relic collectors this is one of the cheaper investments but a joy nonetheless.

Overall this is a nice and fairly accurate pistol. It's not for people that enjoy the latest tactical advantages. The ammo is a bit pricey for such a small round at around usually $35 for a box of 50. A 9mm would be cheaper and have around the same punch if not more. The price of the pistol itself can vary from 125 to around 550. This is based on prices I have seen. It can still be a plain fun pistol to shoot though as the lack of power is made up for by handling ability. A friend of mine has one and gave it to his wife for her personnal carry because it is reliable. I hate to open myself up to a joke but since it is a time piece it goes very well as your carry and accessory to a pin stripe suit styled after mobsters. The points that matter are these: it's accurate in real world scenario distances, it doesn't break your wrist, it's american god bless it, and you get to give quick history lessons when you hand it to a friend for them to try it out. A fun pistol that speaks well of itself.
