Great rifle for what it's intended for

AK-47 nothing more to say

Performance

The punch of 7.62x39 is just plain fun. you can blow a 4x4 piece of wood in half in just 2-10 shots, depending on how good or bad a shot you are with it. Haven't had the chance to fire a full auto AK but with semi you can always bump fire which is a lot of fun as well. Fired around 150 rounds didn't clean it for 2 weeks and put 300 rounds and no jams. Decent accuracy in the shorter ranges but at around 100 yards had to compensate a bit. The sight I was using was really only sighted in at around 75, with iron sights it was sighted in to 100. I have a vertical foregrip and heavier front end so barrel rise was not too much of a factor. The mag well on my AK is stamped and as such there is a rattle with the mag and feeding can be difficult for a person not used to having to tilt the mag in. There are milled recievers and they do not have much if any rattle to them at all.

Features

My personal AK is outfitted with pictanny rails on the foreend. I'm able to put a red dot, vertical foregrip, tactical flashlight and changed up the stock pistol grip with a more ergonomic grip as well as a collapsible stock. With the pictany rails the options seem endless. The AK does come stock with a side rail for side mounting a scope as well as the always nifty bayonet/wire cutter. For those lucky enought to find one, there is a muzzle adapter to allow you to launch pineapple grenades and the like with blank firing shells. Also the original military 40mm grenade launcher sounds like it would be fun. The overall accessorizing is at least comparable to AR15 platforms. Alson on mag selection you can choose a capacity suited to the task. There are 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 75 round magazines to choose from. Stripper clips can be used to speed load the magazines. Also choices in furniture span from wood, composite, and metal. Magazines can be either composite or metal.

Appeal

The appeal of this gun is not in beauty. No the appeal comes from it being a sign of terroism, freedom, revolution, and just plain coolness. Some people find the sight of the gun either awe inspiring, beauty, or cruelty. It appeals to some countries so much that rather than give up the AK they just started producing them with the 5.56 NATO round. They can be a true symbol of power much like the gold plated one found by American troops.

Overall it is not the most accurate rifle on the planet but it is probably the most popular. It has seen action in more conflicts and wars, personal or otherwise, and has a truly time tested design. There aren't many other rifles with a design from the 40's that still has such an impact with military forces. I think that with a longer barrel and maybe some more attention to overal craftsmanship the range could be lengthened. The magazine feed design is tricky at times until you get used to it. A lot of people are used to just jamming a mag straight in. A clip that is smaller than 30 rounds is a lot less fun but can have it's uses such as "sporting" hunting. The choices on how it actually looks depending on the furniture you choose for it are daunting to someone not sure of the look or feel they want. Do I stick with the wood, go for better wood, switch to polymer, get aluminum foreends, make it look like a dragunov, make it look as close to an AR15 as possible, or even turn it into a bullpup? You may love them or you may hate them, but love and hate take the same amount of devotion of emotion.
