This is a Real Gun

Performance

I have had mixed experience with this weapon system. Some are very reliable and won't quit until the ammo runs out, and some that go "ka-chunk" more often than not. I imagine the majority of the issues with the reliability of this gun has to do with their age. Many guns in use today were in use shortly after WW2. This gun will kill anything, and when it works it works big, but there are many guns out there in service that are simply worn out, so the performance can't get max credit.

Features

I have to disagree with the other reviewer on features. there aren't as many as, say, and M4, but a war on two fronts combined with modern technology have yielded some interesting accessories for this gun. the first that comes to mind is the Surefire Hellfighter gun mounted light produces an insane 3,000 lumens of light. they say this light can illuminate things up to 800 meters away. In an urban setting, while conducting mounted patrol, this light would be a force option unto itself. This gun can be fitted with a variety of optics ranging from daytime sights to IR to thermal weapon sights.

Appeal

This gun fires a half-inch diameter slug weighing nearly 1/10 of a pound at supersonic speeds. This will kill anything. What more do you need to be a giddy little gunner? The very sound of the "Ma Deuce" firing is enough to send the bad guys running, even if it isn't directed at them. This gun has no appeal for those being shot at, but for those doing the shooting, or those friendly dismounts who see a patrol of HMMWVs in the area with these big guns mounted know they have the hand of God ready to support them.

The M2 machine gun has been around for a long, long time in a huge variety of mounts and uses, and with good reason. When you are behind this gun, pressing down on the butterflies, you are as close to being a God as a mortal can come. This gun's long service life has left many of them less than completely reliable, but I have also heard of an improved version being currently produced. Of the many inventions of the great John Moses Browning, only the venerable 1911 pistol eclipses this big bastard in popularity and not even the 1911 comes close to providing former and current service members so many wonderful memories and feelings of being "the meanest mother in the valley". If you have never been near this gun while it's firing, sell your sister into prostitution to get to Knobb Creek or ask the Public Affairs Office of your nearest military installation if you can observe a .50 cal range. Seeing it on video doesn't give you the feel of the sheer overpressure you feel when laying next to it, spotting those big rounds screaming downrange.
