Sexy looking auto-loader. Deadly accurate.

Performance

I have this rifle in .30-06. It's had a few rounds through it now and I can say one thing without hesitation, it will put a round right on target with the right ammo and shooter.
I have been through a few types of rounds, mostly the cheap stuff. I've tried Federal Power Shok PSP, Remington Core-Lokt PSP, Monarch,Winchester Super X Power Point, and Winchester SilverTips. It likes the Winchester SilverTips.
I was able to get a 3 round group at slightly over 1" @ 100yds with these.
The gun shoots soft for a .30-06. The gas action, weight, and R3 recoil pad really keep the felt recoil down. But the barrel does heat up quick. And when it does, the groups really open up. Not that this is a problem, since it's not a battle rifle and not meant for sustained fire.
I haven't seen anything to indicate any weakness in the action or the bedding. And by the looks and feel, I am certain this rifle will last many years.
One note to make though, it is important to keep that chamber clean. After about 20 rounds, I clean it with a chamber brush. I will act up if you don't do this. Also, I once made the mistake of picking up a box of ammo that was lacquer coated steel case. DO NOT make this mistake. Not unless you don't care about your rifle, or really like cleaning it. The lacquer on the case vaporizes when the round is fired and leaves a mess in the chamber. After discovering this on about the 5th round, I threw the rest away.

Features

There are several options with this model in barrel length, caliber, and stock. They have a nice gas operated action with the gas port re-designed from 7400 to foul less and maintain easier. It has iron sights that are adjustable for windage and elevation and the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It has a detachable 4 round magazine. The recoil pad it uses is Remington's R3 pad and it is very soft and absorbs recoil very well. The cheek rest is elegant and functional. And it has a recessed target crown.

Appeal

The sleek design of this rifle is very attractive and I think it looks so good that, if it only had one more feature, it would be my wife. It's a bit heavy, but it feels good when holding it, aiming it, and firing it. I have the wood stock and I like the classic look of the walnut finish with the dark bluing. The checkering, although machined, is fine and intricate and contributes to the beauty of this rifle.

This rifle is the replacement for the 740 and 7400 series of auto-loaders and Remington has made some improvements over those models. Its improved gas system provides faster, smoother cycling. It features a restyled American walnut stock and fore-end.

Key Features:
* Improved gas-operated action for slick, super-fast cycling
* Stylish American walnut or black synthetic stock and fore-end
* Stellar balance and a streamlined design for fast target acquisition
* 22" barrel with iron sights
* Receiver drilled and tapped for Model 7400 scope mounts
* Exceptional action strength – rotary-bolt lock-up

After I bought it, I started wondering why I bought an auto-loader instead of a bolt action. But the performance of this rifle and it's attractive looks put my self doubt to rest. And she's a heavy hitter on top of accurate and pretty. Me and my buddies were shooting 1/4" steel plate with our handguns. We had it at a deflection angle and had set up wood and plastic barriers in front of it to catch ricochets. Our .45s (1911 and SAA), .357, .38spcl, and .380s put little dents in the plate. One of my friends tried his .30-30 and it made a slightly deeper dent. I pulled my rifle out, and put holes in the plate. Nice, round, uniform holes. I love this rifle and would recommend it to anyone.
