SIG Sauer P226 Review

SIG pistols have a long history with the law enforcement in the US. The SIG series has been used by many law enforcement agents around the country and the trend continues until today.

Performance

However, the SIG that we'll be reviewing today started off as a "rejected" SIG by the military. The SIG Sauer P226 was first introduced in the mid-80s. The manufacturer was competing with Baretta as the US military was seeking a new type of pistol. Baretta was ultimately chosen over SIG Sauer P226 but only because Baretta already has a factory in the US which means easier production and SIG Sauer P226 is a little bit expensive.
Since the rejection of this type of pistol during the mid-80s is purely on manufacturing side, SIG Sauer P226 is still a notable hand gun. This type of pistol is often regarded as a "business" like pistol wherein its main use is for law enforcement. It's firepower is often considered lethal which is why it's one of the recommended handgun for law enforcement officers.

Features

Analysis on Specifications
SIG P226 is a relatively large pistol. It's relatively bigger to most pistols because it measures 7.7 inches in length and weighs more than 800 grams (no cartridge). The barrel length is 4.4 inches and the pistol could be used with .40, .357 and 9mm cartridges. The most popular type of SIG P226 is the .40 cartridge.
The reason for its weight is because it comes with a steel frame. The weight and the length of the pistol barrel improve stability and possibly prevent uncontrolled recoil.

Appeal

Another feature that should be noted about P226 is that the pistol's safety is located farther than most pistols. It's a little bit inconvenient but the distance was made to allow the hand to properly grip the pistol. This requires familiarity especially if you have a smaller hand.
SIG Sauer P226 is a big and relatively powerful handgun. Because of the size of its barrel, weight and ability to handle various cartridge, this particular pistol can be very lethal. Those who purchase this pistol often use it as their security pistol just like law enforcement officers use the P226 as protection.

Handling
As already indicated, SIG P226 is a heavy pistol which offers stability. The longer barrel also helps in improving accuracy. No jamming was experienced after using the pistol for a few rounds and the aim is relatively easy.

But the SIG P226 handle may not be feasible for everyone. This particular pistol's handle is a straight handle which means it can be slippery or difficult to handle. Because it's a large gun, it's important that the gun will be handled well. The default handle is flat and do not offer any rough edges that will enable better grip for the shooter.

But this doesn't mean SIG P226 is a hopeless gun. The handle can be fully customized to your preference. Check out some pistol handles that can work well with P226. Make sure that your hand feels tight since the P226 could have a pretty strong recoil.
