Smith & Wesson is one of the most recognized gun manufacturers in the world - for a good reason. The company has continuously manufactured high quality firearms that amazed gun enthusiasts, hunters and even the military. Anyone who wants to be familiar with guns will most likely encounter a Smith & Wesson and be impressed by its structure and design.

Performance: 9.4

The Smith & Wesson 442 is no exception to the quality that's eagerly maintained by the manufacturer. The 442 is a relatively small handgun that it can be dubbed as a "pocket pistol". This type of pistol usually comes with 5 rounds and uses .38 cartridges. With the preferred cartridge, the 442 is a very powerful handgun even though it comes with very limited rounds. But this should be more than enough for protection.

Features: 9.6

Most of the small handguns will automatically give you the idea of its lightweight design. But the 442 is often in the middle point when it comes to weight. It's not the lightest small gun but not the heaviest. But its diminutive size is more than enough to make it fit in your pocket or in a specialized holster. This is one of the disadvantages of this type of handgun since it's very challenging to find the right holster. If you're opting to purchase the 442, make sure you already know a good source of a holster especially if you're planning to bring the gun in various places for protection. Special edition and customization is also available in 442. There exists a NSL (No Safety Lock) version of the 442 with aluminum. Most of the 442 you will find in market today comes in black coating over its aluminum frame. The NSL is quite rare since it's not really the preferred gun for many users. If you're an experienced gun enthusiast, the NSL option for the 442 should be perfect but it's too dangerous for first time gun owners.

Appeal: 9.8

The Smith & Wesson 442 is a small but very powerful gun from the world renowned manufacturer. It may have some customization problems in its grip and finish but it's still a highly efficient and recommended pistol to own.

Enhancing this type of handgun can be implemented through its grips. The standard grip of the 442 is very good especially for first time gun owners. But there is a chance that the grip might be too small which could be dangerous especially with .38 calibers that has a powerful recoil. You might lose control of the handgun and drop it after firing. If you're feeling even a little bit uneasy of the grip, be sure to immediately purchase a good replacement of the grip so that you'll have a grip that will work perfectly on your hand.

Cleaning the 442 after use is always necessary but cleaning should never be excessive. One of inadequacies of this type of pistol is that their finish is not as strong compared to other handguns. Be careful not to over scrub the 442 or else the black finish will wear off. Although this will not affect the performance of your pistol, its aesthetic aspect will be affected.
