Springfield Armory M6 Scout Gun Review

The Armory M6 is one of the most unique firearms manufactured in history. This gun was first released in the 50s and its main use was for military personnel who would be out on a mission for days without external support. It's a powerful, reliable firearm that will surely amuse any gun enthusiast.

Performance

The current popular version of the Armory M6 is the civilian version with 18" barrel. The military version only comes with 14" which clearly has more power. Civilian version also has an optional safety. But aside from these differences, other parts are the same.

This is regarded as a highly unique firearm because it can be used as a rifle and a shotgun. Although its features suggest that it's more of a firearm rather than a shotgun; shooters can conveniently switch from rifle to shotgun with a single lever just behind the sights. Another unique feature of the Armory M6 is that it's pure steel except on the butt wherein a wood was added to cover another unique feature - a compartment. The compartment at the end of the Armory M6 is used to store bullets. As already indicated, this type of gun is used by military personal that will be out in the wood for a very long time.

Features

The gun is also very mobile. Even with the 18" version of the firearm, it can become a handy gun simply because it can be folded. This is a tricky maneuver for first time owners but it can be fully folded that it will look like a square metal box. Adjusting to the foldability of the Armory M6 is the trigger. It's not the regular trigger but comes with bulging button inside the trigger guard. Gun enthusiasts pointed out that this feature was made to allow soldiers to fire the gun even when they are wearing think covers in their hands.

Even with its unique and possible challenging features, this is a highly sought after gun. Even though it has been used since the 50s manufacturing of this type of gun is relatively inconsistent. As of this writing, the last company that manufactured this gun is Springfield last March 2008. This has virtually become a collector's item for gun enthusiasts.

Appeal

Overall, the Springfield Armory M6 is a collectible but a highly usable firearm especially for the outdoors.

Accuracy for this type of gun requires practice. Don't be fooled by the sights since they may not help a lot for smaller targets. Estimate that your target should be four to six inches above the sight. This might be a bit inconvenient but after some practice, the Amory M6 could be very accurate. Besides, the shotgun option can still be used for short range targets.

Improvements on the gun are highly recommended. The barrel of the Armory M6 can easily get hot because of its single barrel action. External protection (coil to absorb heat) that prevents it from heating should be installed. A sling or a belt should also be added for better mobility. The folding option should only be exercised during long travel.
