Kinda wild that they would have any restrictions at all for shooting the damn things if they are seriously this running around in these numbers...
that was a cool post!kinda reminded me of that old tv show tour of duty, except with pigs.if they wanted to give me a ride,id shoot pigs with my slug gun too, looks like fun.bet he had s sore shoulder later though.
Definitely learn when to lead and when to hold off when shooting. Be kinda addicting me thinks.
Am I a pussy for thinking that this is a little f'd up? I think you should eat/use anything you kill. Blasting piggys from a helo with a shotgun doesn't take much skill. Kind of like the train/buffalo hunts but easier. If they were rag heads, I wouldn't think twice because they deserve it, but little piggy pig pigs? No doubt it would be fun though.
i would never do it just to shootem, killed everything with my bb gun when i was a kid...its bad for your soul i think.now i kill only what i eat.
Yeah it would be seriously screwed up to just kill for the sake of killing. Never could see any use for that, also don't think much of people who do things like that either.
I think they run around in a truck and collect them at the end and then dress them out.
guess i kinda jumped the gun on saying "now i only kill what i eat" i should have said i dont kill things for no reason,or dont kill just to kill.thats much more correct.
Let me clarify that this is only my opinion, but regarding the topic of shooting hogs and not eating them, I do not necessarily think it is a bad thing. I do not do it myself. If I already have enough meat in the freezer and can't take anymore, I do not stop hunting them. But I will donate the carcasses to Hunters’ Harvest or to wildlife preserves (tigers and other big cats).
That being said, I can understand those that shoot and let them lie. Understand that these things are pest that cause great destruction to land and crops. Some people look at them no differently than killing rats. Most people would kill rats without hesitation if they were a nuisance but they are not going to eat them. And I have others on my lease that will use the carcass as bait for coyotes.
That's my $.02. For what it's worth.
I don't disagree, I'd probably be first in line for the Helo ride if it was my Farm having $50,000 and up in damage done each year by something that spreads disease, destroys Live Stock watering holes and is not afraid to run a human down to attack it.
That is a different totally situation though because of the Emotional, Monetary and Health Risk prices being paid to *not* kill them off.
I still do not see them leaving dead carcasses all around their property inviting even more vermin, pestilence and predators. Also as long as the meat is not tainted and prepared correctly it would be a very good source of meat for those in need.
I know I would have a few Trunk Freezers and we would have more than a couple huge BBQ's every year until it wasn't a problem anymore.
One thing about these pigs is that being mixed with European Boars, there really isn't anything from stopping them moving north into the mid and upped Farming belt. The impact of such a thing taking place in the matter of just 10 years would be staggering.
Eradication should be a goal, look at what the Asian Carps and Snakehead Fish are doing already. Hell it makes me wonder why they even allow Exotic Pets in the USA. Every single one that has been brought in which isn't huge with claws and fangs, or with fangs and venom seems to have been released in some manner to cause problem either large or small.
But your right, there is a position and perspective which dictates the eradication, which holds real meaning, if not a moral one totally.
