This is the song that was in sam's Extreme Pilot Errors email that he sent around, I knew it was Nazareth but couldn't remember the name of the flippin song but I sleuthed it out.
I love those old girls. The older planes like cars were so much more sexy.
More aircraft trivia.. Howard Hughes set a transamerica speed record with the first one in service..I've always thought the big super connie was about the prettiest thing flying.. If you guys have never heard the big rotaries at full tilt boogie your missing something. Get all 72 cylinders pumping out close to 14000 hp total (they were like 3500 ea) and it was faster than a Japanese zero..
Again a WWII A/C that was used thru vietnam.. Navy (think AF to) used them for COIN stuff, they would go up with two crews, and come back like a day later full 24 hr missions.. All very hush hush stuff.. Least for us peons.. Ok no more from the dino dept.. Got some work to do..
as an aviation mechanic, at 2:37 when they sing "up with the flaps, down with the wheels"........You try and land any plane with the flaps up and I will guarantee a disaster, flaps down generates a considerable amount of 'lift' and slows the plane down to a manageable speed under power.........I will 'hop off' my soap box now....lol
