too bad the "Liberty Belle" burnt to the ground, here is the link to where he took his Grandpa on an all expense paid ride on a B-17 that wasn't paid for by the Government ;-)
Thanks Hamp for the post.No matter how you look at it GOD works in mysterious ways.
psmalone, yes he does........
"Liberty bell", her rudder, nose stripe and port wing stripe would need to be yellow to be the "Liberty bell" , i have seen that plane, actually last year here in SLC not long before it went up in flames in ILL (?) can't remember, some farmers field http://www.libertyfoundation.org/index.html..
Brother and his new wife were up from SV.. we did a big loop from Peeples Valley thru Prescott to Phx, Wickenburg and back up the Mt.. Were driving south in W Phx, Gary says brother i hear some big recipe's.. both of us are fans of the big radials.. We were around the Glendale airfield at the time, and i have no idea where they took off from.. could have been sky harbor.. guessing the altitude was 2 to 3 K.. PS was talking about God working in mysterious ways.. For some reason i hadn't taken the expressway, so we could actually enjoy this.. what we thought might have been a couple of C-54's or a "flock" of 47's turned out to be a 17, with the Mustang off its port wing..
Gary and i are yelling like a couple of loon's .. hush... the gals were under whelmed. Maybe they were just embarrassed...First and only time i've seen either.. Folks took brother and i to the east coast back in 58 or so, we visited the Smithsonian, so im sure i saw them their but don't remember..
heard that term in a long time, not since A&P school!
forgive me hamp, im still laughing at my "triple" post... sheesh.. Not even sure how that happened, i had lost one, and it popped up i guess.. way lopish behavior..
Yes indeed, when i went to A school i had an option of going recipe's or jets.. the Navy rating is AD for radials, and ADJ for jet.. "Sadly" i chose the jet school.. never worked on it, and the recip AD rating would have put me in some neat squadrons and i know i would have enjoyed it more.. Theirs not much "wrenching" with jets, and of course just the opposite with the big old 19th century radial engines..their much like a Harley except maybe more quite.. thats it for the evening humor..
night to all
recipes? recerps? (who are you Julia Childs?) I gotta 'bust your balls' on this one, I have tears in my eyes, that's the funniest thing I ever read......Geebus!
WAIT!! WAITE!! cried greg..
OK.. "parts pants boy"... here's the deal.. First off you had me so confused after you got your pounds of fuel mixed up with your gallons of fuel .. thus causing me to figure that the 141 carried weight akin to the Washington monument every time it took off..
I was but a shell of my normal self.. This is the same normal self that managed to do the gunslot first ever "triple post".. My hands were shaking and my knees were weak... No wait a minute that's Elvis..
When i hit the spell check.. and you have to understand that when i hit sp check.. it's not a normal one or two words.. immediately emersed in a sea of red.. When i did my corrections my "recip" came out with the fore mentioned Julia Child's recipe..
I hope this clears the matter up.. I will now take my seat in the senior section and lick my wounds..
Sad that were losing this generation.. a 20 year old in 41, would be 91 today. Its great that the collective conscious of the Nation is recognizing them, but i'd bet money that after their gone theirs going to be all sorts of hand wringing, and "why didn't we do more". from the "pundit" and "talking head" crowd..
Thats one of the neat things about "us".. We get it.. When that time comes, and unfortunately it's coming fast, others might have some remorse for not doing more, but i doubt if we will.. I know the group thats here well enough to double down on the first bet..
By all thats said, and posted, "we're" the ones that take the time to talk to the old boy thats wearing the WWII hat.. I'm also sure that everyone of us has stories about this.. Let's keep collecting them.. Down the road we can do a forum thread. "what he/she said about the War"
