What type of rifle

What type of round? It was too close to the target.

Too close?

Have any of you people ever practiced reflexive fire or done live-fire CQB training with your M4/M16s? Billions of rounds fired every year, there are bound to be incidents like this. That's why the Blackwater training facility has shredded rubber on their backstops. You have a few million rounds fired into a backstop at a range every year, and there are bound to be ricochets from the bullets in the mound. What's next guys, criticism that he didn't have muzzle awareness or put his weapon on safe?

I don't think he used muzzle awareness, or had his weapon on safe

I think he had both

Hell, in this case, it's obvious that downrange is not the safest direction to point his weapon, and away from him is the best safety for that rifle.
