after I lost my last dog,a blue tick hound who i hunted with and who was part of the family for a long time i avoided the "cute doggy stories".My hound "Blue" was a full blood Bluetick hound that was an awesome coon and cat dog.He did his work very well. His part of the property was near the chicken coop.Because he wa a hunting dog he had to be chained so he wouldnt go hunting without me.His dog house was right next to the door to the chicken coop in hopes that other critters would leave the chickens alone.it worked!the neighbors chicken coop was wiped out numerous times by coons and possums but not ours.we began to let the chickens out every morning to graze around for bugs and such.I come home one day from work and couldnt find the chickens.my first thought was maybe Blue had an early snack.so i go and pull him out of his dog house for an ass whoopin'.he was freakin thinking he was a dead doggy.I look in the house and all 10 of our chickens were in his dog house bedded down in the cedar shavings!with him!after this i always left the chicken house open so the chickens could come and go.they all slept in the dog house with that hound every night!we never lost a chicken!when we had to move from that place,we had to get rid of the chickens,Blue just wasnt the same and with new babys in the house my hunting time got cut to nil.so when my father in law came to visit Blue went home to eastern washington with him.Blue immediately adopted his chickens.couldnt keep that stinkin hound out of the chicken house.so my father in law built a dog door into the chicken coop.We lost Blue early this spring when a bobcat decided that chicken was on the menu.that hound fought as best he could but by himself it wasnt much of a match.

i havent ever talked about this before because it was one of them heart felt things...

but this story of the surfer dog made me want to share it.
thanks for listening

Damn greasy

you had to post that? Reminded me of the shepard I lost. She watched over my daughter from the time we brought her home from the hospital. She learned to walk holding on to her tail. When the neighbors kid went to grab her she grabbed his arm very gently but wanted him to know that that was a big no no to touch her kid. She was a great dog but someone poisened her and if I ever find out who...............

don't be sorry

I loved all my dogs. I even have a magnet on my fridge that says "The more people I meet the better I like my dog" If it ever came down to the wife or the dog I hope she finds a nice place to stay.

Animals

Animals can get inside your heart. I/we've had some that were not just like a part of the family, they WERE family. You almost never get unconditional love from a human (except for a child), but you sure can with a dog.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man. (Mark Twain).

your right about that ecaman.this ol' stinkin hound got inside my heart like no other dog i ever had.that hound, even after a bath just always stunk.dont know why but he did.but he wouldnt hurt nobody or a chicken.we had to collect our eggs from inside the doghouse.go figure.he never stole egss either.and hounds aint exactly the most honest dogs out there, just ask anyone who has had them.

Almost got a tear outa me. lol. Ive always had a dog growing up, just doesnt seem right to not have one. A dog is a mans best friend, no doubt about that, all mine always tried to protect me, even bit one of my buddies in the face...its what you get from gettin drunk and messin with a dog..lol. great story. miss my old dogs....I need to go adopt a pup.

How do you know that dog is truely a mans best friend? Take your wife or girlfriend and your dog lock both of them in the trunk of your car while you run errands, your best friend is the one who is happy to see you when you let them out.
